Denève: Beethoven 9
Oct 10, 2026 - Oct 11, 2026
Sat: 7:30 PM | Sun: 2:00 PM
Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony anchors a New World Symphony program honoring Michael Tilson Thomas at the New World Center in Miami Beach. Denève: Beethoven 9 takes place Saturday, October 10, and Sunday, October 11, as part of New World Symphony’s 2026-2027 season.
Conducted by Artistic Director Stéphane Denève, the program opens with Tilson Thomas’s Notturno, featuring New World Symphony Principal Flute and NWS alumnus Demarre McGill, followed by the Adagietto from Mahler’s Symphony No. 5. The concert concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, whose final movement sets Friedrich Schiller’s “Ode to Joy” for vocal soloists, chorus and orchestra.
The performance brings together the NWS Fellows, the Master Chorale of South Florida and soloists Ellie Dehn, Tamara Mumford, Sean Panikkar and Dashon Burton. The program reflects both New World Symphony’s connection to Tilson Thomas, its co-founder and longtime artistic leader, and the season’s emphasis on major orchestral works performed by the next generation of classical musicians.
Brett Karlin serves as chorus master for the Master Chorale of South Florida, a regional auditioned ensemble whose collaborations include performances with New World Symphony, Palm Beach Symphony and The Cleveland Orchestra.
