Saturday: 7:30 PM | Sunday: 2:00 PM
French elegance meets American energy in a concert that highlights two of the 20th century’s most influential musical voices.
On Saturday, May 2 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 3 at 2:00 p.m., Denève, Thibaudet, Bernstein & Gershwin comes to the New World Center as part of the New World Symphony’s 2025–2026 season. Stéphane Denève conducts a program that includes Leonard Bernstein’s Overture to Candide and his Symphony No. 2, “The Age of Anxiety”, a work for piano and orchestra based on W. H. Auden’s poem of the same name. Renowned French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, known for his expressive range and genre-crossing collaborations, performs the piano solo in The Age of Anxiety, a piece that navigates themes of identity, isolation and human connection.
The program continues with Gershwin’s I Got Rhythm Variations, arranged by William C. Schoenfeld, and concludes with An American in Paris, a vibrant orchestral portrait of an American visitor navigating the sounds and pace of the French capital.
Individual tickets go on sale July 25, 2025.
