Set to the soulful sounds of Motown, Dominique Morisseau’s Detroit ’67 captures a moment of upheaval and resilience at the height of the Civil Rights Movement.
Presented at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center on March 5-8, 13-15, and 20-22, the play unfolds against the backdrop of the 1967 Detroit uprising, where personal dreams collide with social unrest. Through intimate storytelling and period music, Morisseau explores themes of family, identity and survival during one of America’s most transformative eras.
Detroit ’67 offers a powerful reflection on history’s echoes in the present, brought to life through vivid characters and the enduring spirit of a city in motion.
