Formed in Akron, Ohio in the early 1970s, Devo became a defining force in the new wave movement with songs such as “Whip It” and “Girl U Want.” Their work combined synthesizer-driven music with a conceptual approach centered on the idea of “de-evolution,” using satire and performance to comment on technology, consumer culture and societal change.
