Scholars, writers and community leaders examine how Haitian Kreyòl carries history, identity and cultural memory across generations. The event takes place Saturday, July 25 at Green Space Miami, with discussion centered on language preservation, education, literature and the future of Kreyòl. Presented by Konbit Bwason, the program benefits ProDev, a Haiti-based nonprofit supporting access to education for underserved children.
Panelists include Jan Mapou, co-founder of Sosyete Koukouy and owner of Libreri Mapou; Leonie M. Hermantin, director of special projects at Sant La; Nicolas “Tiko” André, professor and founder of Akademi Kreyòl Ayisyen; and author and cultural commentator P. Castro Desroches.
The evening begins with exhibition viewing, an open bar and light bites, followed by a Haitian rhum and chocolate pairing and the panel discussion. Guests may also explore Count It All Joy!, a group exhibition featuring 14 Miami artists and curated by Donnamarie Baptiste and Arsimmer McCoy. Visitors are asked not to park on 72nd Street due to residential parking restrictions.
