Fireside Chat with Edouard Duval-Carrié

Artist Edouard Duval-Carrié discusses how migration, memory, Vodou symbolism and Caribbean history shape his luminous mixed-media work. The conversation takes place Monday, August 17 at The Gallery at The Betsy in Miami Beach, as part of the hotel’s From Venice with Love exhibition program.

Hosted by Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator founder Rosie Gordon-Wallace, the fireside chat examines Duval-Carrié’s creative journey from Haiti to Miami and the political, spiritual and cultural narratives embedded in his paintings and sculptures. The evening also includes a dance performance by Bahamian artist and FIU doctoral candidate A’Keitha Carey, bringing movement into dialogue with the exhibition.

Curated by Carl-Philippe Juste, the retrospective remains on view at The Betsy through November 15. Throughout August, related video art is projected nightly on The Betsy Orb. The program is presented by The Betsy Writer’s Room, FIU Public Humanities Lab and GMCVB Art of Black, with support from the Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation CreARTE Grant.
