Immerse yourself in the vibrant sounds of Latin America at the FIU Latin American Choral Festival, a four-day celebration from April 18 to 21. Presented by the Wertheim School of Music, "Our Voices, Our Roots" shines a spotlight on the choral traditions of the region through a series of concerts held at various locations on the FIU campus and at Comber Hall at the Church of the Little Flower in Coral Gables.
The festival kicks off on Thursday, April 18 with an Opening Concert featuring the FIU University Singers alongside guest choirs. TThe program presents a diverse range of music, from traditional Spanish Mass to contemporary pieces reflecting the eclectic musical influences of Latin America and the Caribbean.
The following evening, Friday, April 19, brings the Featured Choirs' Concert to the Wertheim Concert Hall. This program highlights the unique styles of four acclaimed choirs, including the FIU Concert Choir, Amazonia Choir, Encantus Choir and Cusib Global.
Saturday, April 20 is a highlight of the festival with two performances of Cantata Criolla. This iconic Venezuelan masterpiece by Ariel Ramirez seamlessly blends folk rhythms with modern musicality, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Latin America. Led by conductor Javier Mendoza, all featured choirs join forces with the FIU Symphony Orchestra. A second performance of Cantata Criolla takes place on Sunday, April 21.
