FIU Latin Jazz Ensemble

Experience an evening of Afro-Caribbean rhythms and jazz as the FIU Latin Jazz Ensemble brings its high-energy sound to Lummus Park.

The Ocean Drive Promenade Music Series presents FIU Latin Jazz on Sunday, October 19 at Lummus Park, located between 14th Street and 14th Place along Ocean Drive in Miami Beach. This free outdoor concert invites attendees to bring a picnic blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the performance in a laid-back, oceanfront setting. In case of rain, the concert will be relocated indoors to The Betsy Hotel.

Under the direction of Dr. Michael Eckroth, an award-winning pianist, keyboardist and arranger who earned a Grammy nomination for his work with Orquesta Akokán and serves as Assistant Professor of Jazz Piano at Florida International University, the ensemble features FIU’s top graduate and undergraduate musicians. Their program spans five decades of Latin jazz, blending Afro-Caribbean rhythms, Cuban folkloric influences and big band jazz. The group was named “Best Latin Act” of 2020 by Miami New Times.

Presented by the Ocean Drive Association with support from the City of Miami Beach and the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau, this performance is part of the free weekly Sunday concert series open to the public.
