Classical guitar ensemble brings its diverse repertoire to a springtime performance at FIU. The FIU Miami GuitART Orchestra will perform on Monday, April 14 at the FIU Wertheim Performing Arts Center. This showcase features the ensemble under the direction of guitarist and composer Mesut Özgen, presenting a wide-ranging program that spans from Renaissance compositions to contemporary works, with influences from jazz and global musical traditions.
Founded in 2013 by Dr. Özgen, the orchestra focuses on premiering new ensemble works for guitar alongside arrangements of traditional repertoire. The group has performed commissioned pieces from notable composers including Benjamin Verdery, Jack Vees, Phil Collins and Christopher Pratorius.
Their diverse repertoire includes works by Leo Brouwer, Carlos Rafael Rivera and Gerald Garcia, as well as classical compositions from Bach and Tchaikovsky.
