Frederick Douglas Lecture Series: America at 250

A public lecture in Opa-locka examines the nation’s history, accomplishments and unfinished work as the United States marks its 250th anniversary. Presented by Ten North Group, the program takes place Friday, August 21 at The ARC (Arts & Recreation Center), beginning with a pre-lecture reception from 6 to 6:45 p.m. and the lecture at 7 p.m. The discussion is part of the Frederick Douglass Lecture Series and centers on the theme “Promise, Progress, and the Work Ahead.”

Featured speaker Dr. Steve Gallon III, Miami-Dade County Commissioner-elect and former Miami-Dade County School Board member, will consider America’s development over the past 250 years and the challenges and opportunities shaping its future. An educator, public leader and mentor, Gallon brings experience in education and civic service to a conversation framed around the relationship between the country’s founding ideals and its continuing pursuit of progress.
