Free Second Saturdays: Freedom in Motion
Jul 11, 2026
From: 11:00 AM to 03:00 PM
Family artmaking, collection highlights and a performance about Miami artist Purvis Young shape a free Second Saturday program at PAMM. PAMM Free Second Saturdays: Freedom in Motion takes place Saturday, July 11 at Pérez Art Museum Miami, with museum admission free all day. The program invites visitors to consider American identity through art, community memory and performance.
The day’s art activity is inspired by This is America: Selections from PAMM’s Collection and the work of Evita Tezeno, whose mixed-media painting The Rhythm of Street Life reflects Black community life in 1960s Port Arthur, Texas. Participants can create their own mixed-media artworks using personal heritage and community as starting points.
The program also features a performance of Othello of Overtown, a three-act play about Purvis Young, the self-taught African American artist whose work documented life, struggle and resilience in Miami-Dade County. Using Shakespeare’s Othello as a framework, the production explores Young’s artistic vision, his relationship to community and the challenges he faced in the art world.
