Frost After Dark: Sounding Out Other Worlds
Nov 04, 2026
From: 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Experimental music and science fiction intersect in a listening session exploring how musicians imagine new ways of living and creating together. Taking place Wednesday, November 4 at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum FIU, Sounding Out Other Worlds is part of the museum’s recurring Frost After Dark series. Through shared listening and discussion, participants will consider how collaboration and improvisation can reshape ideas about identity, community and belonging.
Leading the conversation are Akia Dorsainvil, the DJ known as Pressure Point and founder of Masisi Radio; Andrea Queeley, FIU associate professor of anthropology and African and African Diaspora studies; Frost Art Museum Chief Curator Natalia Zuluaga; and independent scholar and exhibition co-curator Graham Eng-Wilmot.
The program builds on Invitation to Openness, an exhibition examining collaborative practices across avant-garde jazz, hip-hop and experimental music. Its listening stations and visual artworks trace connections among improvisation, artistic exchange and the communities that sustain them. Admission to the evening program is free and open to the public.
