Portraiture, natural symbolism and queer visibility come together in an immersive new art installation on view this summer in the heart of Coral Gables. Garden Shadows of the Sun, a solo exhibition by South Florida artist David Gary Lloyd, transforms the lobby of 255 Alhambra Circle into a temporary gallery space from June 13 through September 15.
Presented in honor of Pride Month, the multidisciplinary installation features intimate photographic portraits layered with lush imagery—flamingos, peacocks and butterflies—that reference South Florida’s natural beauty and evoke the coded language of LGBTQ+ history and identity. A graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design and former teaching artist at Pérez Art Museum Miami, Lloyd uses his work to explore themes of belonging, resilience and personal expression. This exhibition reflects his ongoing commitment to making queer narratives visible in shared public space.
The opening reception takes place Friday, June 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. Garden Shadows of the Sun is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The exhibition is part of Terranova Corporation’s cultural programming at 255 Alhambra, which seeks to activate commercial spaces through partnerships with local artists and community organizations.
