Fri-Mon: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM | Thu: 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Discover how competition, spectacle and physical endurance take on new meaning through contemporary art at Pérez Art Museum Miami. Bringing together more than 100 works, this large-scale exhibition examines the cultural impact of sports across generations and geographies.
On view from March 19 through August 23, Get in the Game: Sports, Art, Culture explores the connections between athletic performance and artistic expression. Timed alongside major international sporting events in Miami, including the Miami Open, Formula 1 Grand Prix and FIFA World Cup, the exhibition considers how games shape identity, memory and shared experience in a global city.
The presentation features works by artists from around the world, including Ernie Barnes’s depictions of neighborhood basketball scenes, Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno’s real-time portrait of soccer star Zinedine Zidane and Tara Mateik’s exploration of the 1973 “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match. Contemporary artworks are shown alongside historic sports memorabilia, from vintage Nike sneakers to original McLaren Racing steering wheels, highlighting the overlap between athletic culture, design and visual storytelling.
With contributions from artists such as Virgil Abloh, Mark Bradford, Glenn Ligon, Catherine Opie, Yinka Shonibare, Hank Willis Thomas and many others, the exhibition positions sport as both subject and catalyst. Immersive installations and multimedia works extend the experience beyond the gallery wall, inviting visitors to consider how art reframes the energy and symbolism of the arena.
