A one-man psychological thriller unfolds onstage this fall, driven by quicksilver character changes and a narrative that blurs the line between truth and deception. Featuring a single actor performing 19 distinct roles, this solo play explores identity, manipulation and the consequences of unchecked reinvention.
Harry Clarke, running October 10 through November 2, 2025, at GableStage at the Biltmore, marks the regional premiere of Obie Award winner David Cale’s acclaimed work. The story follows Philip Brugglestein, a reserved Midwesterner who adopts the persona of a bold, charismatic Londoner named Harry Clarke after relocating to New York. As Harry inserts himself into the lives of a wealthy family, the lines between fantasy and reality begin to collapse.
The production stars Mark H. Dold (Appropriate, The Lehman Trilogy), whose shape-shifting performance anchors the narrative, and is directed by Julianne Boyd, founding artistic director of Barrington Stage Company. Harry Clarke opens GableStage’s 27th season, which features four premieres and a new work from Pulitzer Prize winner Nilo Cruz. Single tickets for the season go on sale August 26.
