International Coastal Cleanup at Matheson Hammock

Volunteers gather at Matheson Hammock Park for a shoreline cleanup that connects local action with a global movement to reduce marine debris.
International Coastal Cleanup at Matheson Hammock takes place Saturday, September 20 as part of Miami-Dade County’s International Coastal Cleanup 2025. Organized by Blue Missions Group with countywide coordination by VolunteerCleanup.org, the event marks the 40th anniversary of the International Coastal Cleanup, which engages millions of participants in more than 150 countries. Volunteers will remove debris from the park’s shoreline and record data through the Ocean Conservancy’s Clean Swell app, contributing valuable information to global marine research.
Participants should bring closed-toed shoes for mixed terrain, water in a reusable bottle and sun protection such as a hat, sunglasses and lightweight clothing. Gloves, garbage bags, water refills, pickers and buckets will be provided. Volunteers will meet across from the Matheson Hammock Marinas, with parking passes available at check-in. Waivers are required, and community service hours will be awarded.
This effort is part of a worldwide initiative that has mobilized more than 18 million people to protect oceans and waterways.
