A blend of jazz, soul and funk takes center stage in a concert that pays tribute to the rich musical legacy of Motown.
On Friday, June 6, Jazz in Motown: Funk Edition comes to the Black Archives Historic Lyric Theater, presented by the Sunshine Jazz Organization. This one-night performance features an ensemble of seasoned musicians—including Allen Paul, Doug Carter, Eddy Balzola, Waldron Dunkley, Sergio Zavala, Shaka Pace and Alfonso Velasco—delivering an energetic set that bridges classic Motown grooves with jazz improvisation and funk rhythms.
The evening also highlights vocal performances by Lenard Rutledge, Dewayne Terry, Shamara Knowles, Jelani and Genelle Felix, each bringing a distinctive sound to a program rooted in the stylistic crosscurrents of Black American music.
