Mar 31, 2026
Starting: 7:30 PM
An evening of vocal jazz spotlights the work of influential women composers and arrangers across genres.
Jazz Vocal & The Music of Women Composers & Arrangers takes place Tuesday, March 31 at the University of Miami’s Gusman Concert Hall. Directed by Kate Reid, the Frost Extensions and Jazz Vocal I & II ensembles present a program honoring artists whose songwriting and arranging have shaped country, pop and jazz.
The repertoire features music by Dolly Parton, Joni Mitchell, Luciana Souza, Abbey Lincoln and Esperanza Spalding, reflecting a wide stylistic range—from intimate folk-inflected ballads to rhythmically nuanced jazz works and contemporary crossover sounds. Through ensemble arrangements and solo features, the concert highlights the depth, innovation and expressive power of women’s voices in modern music.
Presented by the Frost School of Music, the performance continues the program’s commitment to exploring diverse influences within the jazz vocal tradition while celebrating composers and arrangers whose contributions continue to resonate across generations.
