John Baldessari: The End of the Line Curator Meet and Greet

A curator-led conversation introduces John Baldessari’s irreverent approach to conceptual art, from text-based paintings and appropriated imagery to his radical rejection of traditional authorship. The meet and greet takes place Thursday, August 20 at Pérez Art Museum Miami, marking the opening of the first major South Florida survey devoted to the influential artist.

PAMM chief curator José Carlos Diaz and Karen Grimson, curator of the Craig Robins Collection and director of art and culture at the Miami Design District, will discuss Baldessari’s career and the ideas behind The End of the Line. The exhibition brings together approximately 40 works in painting, photography, video and installation, with an emphasis on his foundational experiments of the 1960s and 1970s.

Highlights include work related to Baldessari’s 1970 Cremation Project, his serial use of photography and his long-running examination of the relationship between language and image. Much of the exhibition is drawn from the collection of Craig Robins, a close friend of the artist and a major collector of his work.
