John Coltrane Centennial Celebration

John Coltrane’s compositions and improvisational language take focus in a quartet performance led by pianist Zach Bartholomew at the South Florida Center for Percussive Arts. Presented Saturday, September 26, the concert marks the centennial of the influential saxophonist and composer’s birth. The program moves between ballads, rhythm-driven works and pieces that reflect the exploratory approach that made Coltrane a defining figure in modern jazz.

Bartholomew is joined by saxophonist David Fernandez, bassist Jamie Ousley and drummer Brandon Lee Lewis. Together, the quartet will revisit selections from Coltrane’s repertoire while emphasizing the interplay, improvisation and expressive range at the center of his music.

Food and drinks from Taco Time & More will be available before the performance. The South Florida Center for Percussive Arts is a nonprofit organization that supports percussion education, performance and community music programming.
