Explore how photography has served as both document and medium for performance, identity and conceptual expression in a new exhibition showcasing over 100 works by more than 50 international artists. With a strong emphasis on voices from Latin America and the African diaspora, this presentation examines how artists have used photography to shape narratives, challenge conventions and record time-based art since the 1960s.
Language and Image: Conceptual and Performance-Based Photography from the Jorge M. Pérez Collection is on view at Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) through January 11, 2026. The exhibition includes influential figures such as Marina Abramović, Cindy Sherman and Thomas Struth, alongside artists like Ana Mendieta, Jonathas de Andrade and María Magdalena Campos-Pons, whose works expand the dialogue around performance and image-making. Building on PAMM’s longstanding engagement with photography as a central focus of its collection, the exhibition marks a continuation of the museum’s commitment to contemporary global perspectives and its evolving relationship with the Jorge M. Pérez Collection.
