Listening Party: Mike D - Thank You

A new chapter from Beastie Boys co-founder Mike D gets an advance spin at Sweat Records in Little Haiti with an in-store listening party for his debut solo album, Thank You. Taking place Friday, August 28, the gathering coincides with the album’s release and gives fans a chance to hear the record together while picking up limited-edition merchandise and vinyl.

Born Michael Diamond, Mike D co-founded the Beastie Boys and helped shape the group’s evolution from New York hardcore into one of hip-hop’s most adventurous acts. Thank You is his first solo full-length and the first album of new music from a Beastie Boys member since 2011’s Hot Sauce Committee Part Two. The project grew out of informal recording sessions with his sons Skyler and Davis Diamond before expanding to include a wider group of collaborators, retaining the sample-minded, genre-blurring approach associated with much of his earlier work.

The listening party runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and includes giveaways, a special prize and a limited-edition purple vinyl pressing available through participating independent record stores.
