Starting: 6:00 PM
A documentary exploring the history and cultural significance of one of Miami’s most recognizable landmarks screens at the Freedom Tower as part of the 43rd Miami Film Festival. The event takes place Thursday, April 16, featuring Los 100 años de la Torre de la Libertad, presented in Spanish.
Produced by Telemundo 51, the film traces the evolution of the Freedom Tower from its origins as a newspaper headquarters to its role as a processing center for Cuban exiles and, later, a symbol of heritage for Miami’s Hispanic community. Through archival footage, expert perspectives and personal accounts, the documentary examines the building’s connection to migration, identity and collective memory.
The screening includes an appearance by journalist Gloria Ordaz, who guides the narrative of the film and participates in the program. Presented as a Special Presentation within the festival, the event highlights Miami’s local history and its ongoing cultural resonance.
