Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara: nos encontramos

Performance, conversation and recent artwork frame an evening with Cuban artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara at Miami’s Freedom Tower. The program takes place Friday, August 14 and is presented by the Museum of Art and Design at Miami Dade College. Alcántara arrived in Miami in July 2026 after spending five years as a political prisoner in Cuba.

The evening begins with a live performance, followed by a conversation between Alcántara and filmmaker Ernesto Fundora. Fundora’s recent documentary, Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara: Estamos conectados, examines the artist’s work, imprisonment and role as a co-founder of the San Isidro Movement. Recent works by Alcántara will also be on view.

A reception in the Knight Skylight Gallery follows the discussion. Admission and parking in the Miami Dade College garage at 500 NE Second Avenue are free.
