Mainly Mozart Festival: Three Visions of the Sonata
May 23, 2026
From: 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM
Pianist Saehyun Kim performs a solo recital exploring three distinct approaches to the piano sonata, from Schubert’s expansive lyricism to Mozart’s clarity and Chopin’s dramatic intensity. Presented by the Miami Chamber Music Society, the concert takes place Saturday, May 23 at the Knight Center for Music Innovation at the University of Miami in Coral Gables. The performance is part of the 2026 edition of the Mainly Mozart Festival.
Kim, winner of the 2025 Long-Thibaud International Piano Competition, has drawn attention for the color, refinement and expressive depth of his playing. Based in Boston, where he studies in the Harvard/New England Conservatory dual degree program, he has performed in the U.S., France, Austria, South Korea and Japan.
The program opens with Schubert’s Piano Sonata No. 18 in G major, D. 894, a work known for its spacious lyricism and quiet nobility. After intermission, Mozart’s Piano Sonata No. 3 in B-flat major, K. 281 brings elegance and youthful brilliance, followed by Chopin’s Piano Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 35, a work of turbulence, poetry and dark grandeur.
