Miami Author Series: Mirta Ojito
Oct 17, 2026
From: 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Mirta Ojito discusses her debut novel, Deeper Than the Ocean, in a fireside conversation at the Museum of Miami. Held Saturday, October 17 as part of the Miami Author Series, the program explores a multigenerational story of family, migration, love and long-buried secrets.
Ojito will discuss the novel’s dual narrative and the ways history, memory and migration shape its characters across generations. A Cuban-born journalist and professor, she shared the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting as part of a New York Times team and has written two previous nonfiction books.
The conversation is presented in conjunction with Caught in the Eye: Remembering the 1926 Hurricane, the museum’s centennial exhibition examining the storm that transformed Miami. A book signing follows the discussion, with Books & Books on site offering copies of Deeper Than the Ocean for purchase.
