Miami Book Fair: Opening Day Block Party
Nov 16, 2025
Starting: 4:00 PM
Afrobeat rhythms and community spirit ignite the streets of downtown Miami as Miami Book Fair kicks off with an evening of music, movement and cultural celebration.
The Opening Day Block Party features Jump N’ Funk, “America’s Original Afrobeat Party,” founded by renowned DJ and producer Rich Medina. Originating at New York City’s Shine Nightclub as a tribute to Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, the event has evolved into a global movement uniting art, music and activism. For this special edition, Medina joins forces with Grammy-nominated producer and DJ Kenny Dope (Masters at Work • Kay-Dee Records), accompanied by immersive visuals from Mark Hines/The Marksmen, to deliver an unforgettable dance experience rooted in rhythm and resistance.
A companion to Fela: Music Is the Weapon, the new graphic novel by Jibola Fagbamiye and Conor McCreery, the event celebrates Fela’s revolutionary blend of funk, jazz and African percussion. The block party takes place Sunday, November 16 at Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus.
