Apr 15, 2026
Starting: 7:30 PM
A centennial tribute traces the evolution of one of jazz’s most influential innovators through the many eras that defined his sound.
Miles Davis’ Centennial Revue: Frost Studio Jazz Band takes place Wednesday, April 15 at Gusman Concert Hall at the University of Miami. Directed by trumpeter and composer Etienne Charles, the ensemble explores the restless creativity that shaped Davis’s career from the 1950s through the 1990s.
The program moves through key chapters of Davis’s musical arc, from his bebop collaborations with Charlie Parker to the cool, spacious lyricism of Kind of Blue and the orchestral textures of Sketches of Spain. Selections also reflect the boundary-pushing electric explorations of Bitches Brew and the funk-driven pulse of his later ensembles, illustrating how Davis continually reimagined jazz’s possibilities.
Presented by the Frost School of Music, the concert honors a catalogue that reshaped modern music while showcasing the Frost Studio Jazz Band’s dynamic interpretation of these landmark works.
