MOCA Makers: Figure Drawing with Marcus Torbert
Nov 14, 2026
Starting: 1:00 PM
Geoffrey Holder’s studies of the human figure provide the starting point for a drawing session led by multidisciplinary artist Marcus Torbert. Taking place Saturday, November 14 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami, MOCA Makers: Figure Drawing with Marcus Torbert invites participants to explore gesture, movement and the body through close observation.
Titled Draw Me Nearer, the workshop takes place within the exhibition, where Holder’s paintings offer inspiration for sketching and interpreting the human form. Artists of all skill levels are welcome, including beginners and visitors who prefer to observe, with participants working at their own pace. A social hour follows, offering time to share drawings, exchange ideas and meet fellow attendees.
Based in Fort Lauderdale, Torbert works across illustration, comics, character design and storyboarding. His Black-centered artwork draws on Afrofuturism and explores identity, representation and body positivity. He is the creator of B.R.U.H. (Black Renditions of Universal Heroes), an online comic series and art book that reimagines familiar characters through a Black cultural lens.
The session begins at 1 p.m. Seating is limited, and seats are held only for the first 15 minutes after class begins.
