N.I.M.B.A. Panel Discussion & Video Presentation
Mar 21, 2026
From: Noon to 2:00 PM
A cultural dialogue and video presentation explore the deeper meaning of NIMBA within West African tradition and contemporary practice.
The N.I.M.B.A. Panel Discussion & Video Presentation takes place Saturday, March 21 at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex. The free program marks the launch of Phase II of Delou Africa’s N.I.M.B.A. Series, following the company’s recent research trip to Guinea.
During Phase I, Delou Africa traveled to Guinea to learn directly from the Baga people, cultural stewards of the NIMBA tradition, studying and performing alongside traditional drummers, dancers and singers. Phase II brings that experience to Miami through exclusive video footage from the journey and a live panel discussion featuring cultural leaders, scholars and practitioners.
The conversation examines NIMBA beyond its iconic mask form, addressing its significance as a symbol of fertility, womanhood, protection, strength and communal responsibility. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free with registration required.
A West African dance class led by Mouminatou Camara follows the panel discussion and requires separate paid registration.
