Miami's genre-bending chamber orchestra Nu Deco Ensemble wraps up their season with a a two-night run on October 5 and 6 at the Colony Theatre on Lincoln Road. GRAMMY-nominated Cuban composer and pianist Alfredo Rodríguez will be joining Nu Deco for a first-time collaboration. The program will feature:
- Leonard Bernstein’s On the Town,
- Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout by contemporary composer Gabriela Lena Frank
- An exclusive Nu Deco original.
Hailing from Cuba, Rodriguez was schooled at Havana's rigorous classical conservatories and is as equally adept at Bach as he is with Afro-Caribbean rhythms and jazz improvisation. Since being discovered by Quincy Jones at the 2006 Montreux Jazz Festival, Rodriguez has wowed audiences and critics alike and become a globally recognized artist with five critically-acclaimed albums.
