Old Masters in Context Lecture with Dr. Sarah McPhee

European art from the Lowe Art Museum’s permanent collection becomes the focus of an evening lecture examining how historical context can change the way a work is understood. Held Thursday, November 5, Old Masters in Context features art historian Sarah McPhee in a program connecting works in the collection with the artistic, cultural and social worlds in which they were created.

McPhee is the Samuel Candler Dobbs Professor of Art History at Emory University, where her research centers on 17th- and 18th-century European architecture, Baroque sculpture, print culture and artistic biography. Her scholarship includes extensive work on Gian Lorenzo Bernini and the art and architecture of Baroque Rome.
