Opening of Beyond Words: Women of Mother Earth
Mar 07, 2026
From: 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM
The opening night of Beyond Words: Women of Mother Earth invites audiences to explore feminine identity and mythology through fine art photography at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex. Taking place Saturday, March 7 from 3 to 9 p.m., the event marks the public debut of Maria Daniel Balcazar’s latest body of work.
Presented by IPC Art Space and curated by Carl-Philippe Juste, the exhibition draws inspiration from the poetry of Julia de Burgos while reexamining archetypal figures such as Eve across Jewish, Christian and Islamic narratives. Balcazar’s images challenge long-standing myths that have shaped perceptions of women’s knowledge and power, reframing these figures as symbols of resilience, autonomy and transformation.
Balcazar, an internationally exhibited fine art photographer and iWitness Fellow, combines poetic reference with visual storytelling to create a dialogue between word and image. The opening program includes an artist conversation moderated by Dr. Rebecca Friedman, with a special guest to be announced.
