Protect Gramps Getaway with Sonora Tukukuy

Live cumbia accompanies a community rally and information session focused on the future of Gramps Getaway and Virginia Key’s waterfront. The gathering takes place Thursday, October 29 at the waterfront venue, with Miami-based Sonora Tukukuy and special guests. Organizers describe it as their final rally opposing City of Miami Referendum 3, with opportunities to learn about the campaign and sign up to volunteer.

The referendum concerns a proposed long-term lease and redevelopment of the Rickenbacker and Marine Stadium marinas. Gramps Getaway’s owner has raised concerns about the project’s potential effects on the business and surrounding waterfront. The venue continues the community gathering and music programming associated with the original Gramps in Wynwood.

Sonora Tukukuy brings a contemporary approach to roots cumbia, drawing on its members’ backgrounds across Latin America and beyond. Admission is free.
