Salonen and Dvořák
Nov 09, 2025
Starting: 2:00 PM
An afternoon of chamber music at the New World Center will explore contrasting musical voices, from early 20th-century French composers to contemporary reflections and Romantic-era craftsmanship.
Salonen and Dvořák, taking place on Sunday, November 9, features Fellows of the New World Symphony performing a diverse program of works for small ensemble. Highlights include Catch and Release by Finnish composer and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen, a piece influenced by Igor Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale and Antonín Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No. 1 in A major, a richly expressive work more than 15 years in the making.
The program also includes Soir, Matin by Mel Bonis for violin, cello and piano, and Two Nocturnes by Charles Koechlin, written for flute, horn and harp—both examples of early 20th-century French impressionism and lyricism.
This chamber concert is part of the New World Symphony’s ongoing presentation of curated small-ensemble performances highlighting both classical masterworks and innovative contemporary pieces.
