SFCC Artist Series: Spirituality and Ancestry Tour

Artists and curators explore themes of spirituality, ancestry and the natural world during a guided tour of MOCA North Miami’s South Florida Cultural Consortium exhibition. Taking place Sunday, October 4, the program features artists Nina Surel, Onajide Shabaka, Diana Larrea and Lisu Vega, with co-curators Kimari Jackson and Laura Novoa leading the conversation.

The tour considers how the four artists engage mythology, cosmology, inherited belief systems and ancestral memory in their work. Their practices approach nature as a site of continuity, examining cycles of generation, death and renewal through perspectives rooted in cyclical rather than linear time.

The program is part of MOCA’s new SFCC Artist Series, which pairs participating artists with curators for intimate walkthroughs of the exhibition. Offered on select dates, the tours provide firsthand context on the artists’ processes, ideas and connections to the works on view.
