Sites of the Self
Aug 28, 2026
Daily through Oct 04, 2026
From: Noon to 5:00 PM
Thirteen Oolite Arts resident artists examine how identity is shaped by memory, relationships, social structures and personal experience in a group exhibition spanning multiple media. Sites of the Self runs July 8 through October 4 at Oolite Arts, bringing together works that consider selfhood as an evolving construction rather than a fixed state. The exhibition moves from intimate psychological space to the broader social environments where identity is formed, regulated and contested.
Drawing in part on theorist Édouard Glissant’s ideas about identity emerging through encounters with others, the exhibition considers how difference, community and social context contribute to the ongoing formation of the self. Participating artists are Diego Gabaldon, Gonzalo Hernández, Pangea Kali Virga, Sepideh Kalani, Shayla Marshall, Bex McCharen, Lucía Morales, Genesis Moreno, Ana Mosquera, Sheherazade Thénard, Nadia Wolff, Ricardo Zulueta and José Delgado Zúñiga.
The exhibition is curated by René Morales, senior curatorial fellow at Bakehouse Art Complex, and organized by Oolite Arts in collaboration with Bakehouse.
