Sonatas of 19th and 20th Century
Mar 08, 2026
From: 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM
A matinee program for violin and piano takes the stage at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts. Sonatas of 19th and 20th Century is presented as part of the 2025-2026 FIU Music Series on Sunday, March 8.
The concert contrasts the expressive lyricism and structural depth of early Romantic sonatas by Franz Schubert and Ludwig van Beethoven with the color-rich, virtuosic works of Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. Moving from the emotional intensity of the 19th century to the atmospheric textures of early 20th-century impressionism, the program highlights evolving approaches to harmony, dialogue and instrumental color within the violin and piano repertoire.
Presented by the FIU Wertheim School of Music & Performing Arts, this afternoon performance offers a focused exploration of how the sonata for violin and piano transformed across two influential musical eras.
