Song of the Soul

Devotional painting, photography, sound and digital media explore questions of identity, purpose and the sacred through the artistic traditions of Krishna consciousness. The exhibition runs September 11 through October 31 at the Marshall L. Davis, Sr. African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, drawing on themes from the Bhagavad Gita and the practice of bhakti-yoga. Contemporary paintings, including works shown publicly for the first time, are paired with an immersive video installation and documentary elements examining the global communities that continue these traditions.

A central focus is the work of Syamarani Dasi, a devotional artist and spiritual teacher whose six-decade practice has produced hundreds of paintings rooted in the philosophy and visual language of bhakti. The exhibition is presented by Sacred Vedic Arts, a Miami devotional art gallery, temple, cultural center and spiritual community founded by Syamarani Dasi. Curated by Ludlow E. Bailey and Manjari Dasi, the exhibition also considers connections between Indian and African sacred traditions, particularly the roles of rhythm, chant and invocation in spiritual practice.

Related programming includes a September 11 opening reception, theatrical and wellness events, talks on the Bhagavad Gita and devotional traditions and a closing Diwali celebration on October 30. Gallery hours are Monday - Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m and by appointment on Saturday.
