Explore the transformative dialogue between art and ecology at Spirit in the Land, a contemporary group exhibition on display at PAMM from March 21 through September 8. With over 63 works by 30 artists, this expansive exhibition delves into contemporary ecological concerns from a cultural perspective, revealing the intricate connection between personal identities and the natural world. The exhibit contemplates the transformative potential of our bond with nature and underscores the vital importance of both biodiversity and cultural diversity to our collective existence.
Through a diverse array of multimedia artworks including paintings, drawings, textiles, sculptures, video works, and photography, the exhibition explores the dynamic interplay between identities and the environment. Featuring renowned artists such as Terry Adkins, Firelei Báez, Maia Cruz Palileo, Hew Locke, Carrie Mae Weems and Peter Williams, among others, Spirit in the Land delves into natural environments facing unprecedented challenges while fostering hope for transformation and renewal.
The exhibit is organized by Trevor Schoonmaker, Director of Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, with PAMM's presentation organized by Associate Curator Jennifer Inacio.
