Story Explorers: Perfectly Made

A children’s storytime and author talkback invites families to explore themes of identity, confidence and self-love through a mother-daughter book project. Story Explorers takes place Saturday, July 18 at the Black Archives Historic Lyric Theater. Presented by The Black Archives, the event features Heather P. Binns and her young co-author, Carter Binns, reading from their children’s book Perfectly Made.

The program includes a live reading followed by an interactive Q&A designed for children and caregivers. Young readers will have the opportunity to ask about the story, the writing process and what it is like for a parent and child to create a book together.

Perfectly Made is a faith-based children’s story inspired by conversations between Heather and Carter, celebrating differences in skin color, hair texture, family traits and personal identity. With rhyming language and affirming messages, the book encourages children to see themselves with joy, confidence and a sense of belonging.
