Synchrony: A Miami Music Week After-Party
Apr 03, 2026
Starting: 8:00 PM
Electronic sound, live performance and data-driven visuals converge in a late-night program that reframes connection as both a musical and human practice. Designed as a Miami Music Week after-party, the performance moves fluidly between acoustic and electronic worlds, asking how technology can serve as a conduit rather than a barrier to shared experience.
Created by vocalist and electronic artist Susie Green and saxophonist Kyle Hutchins, the program unfolds as a hybrid performance featuring the Frost Laptop Ensemble and students from the Contemporary Media Electronic Instrument Studio. Across multiple collaborative sets, acoustic instruments and electronic systems engage in dialogue, tracing a progression from traditional ensemble interaction to integrated technological spaces where sound, image and gesture respond to one another in real time. Visualizations generated from performers’ brain data add a scientific dimension, revealing patterns of synchronization that mirror musical and interpersonal exchange.
Synchrony: A Miami Music Week After-Party takes place Friday, April 3 on the Hormel Innovation Stage at the Knight Center for Innovation. The event is part of the Frost School of Music’s Signature Events lineup for the 2025-2026 season and is supported in part by a grant from Virginia Tech’s Institute for Creativity, Arts and Technology.
