Teatro Avante presents "Lear"
Feb 19, 2026 - Feb 22, 2026
Thu-Sat: 8:30 PM | Sun: 5:00 PM
Power, memory and fracture shape Lear, a contemporary theatrical reimagining of Shakespeare’s King Lear presented by Teatro Avante at the Westchester Cultural Arts Center.
Written and directed by Neher Jacqueline Briceño, the production approaches the classic tragedy through a nonlinear journey into Lear’s memory, where time loops, dissolves, and resurfaces as an open wound. Patriarchal authority unravels as internal confrontations between father and daughters take center stage, exposing the lingering consequences of power. A young Fool figure emerges as both echo and bridge, voicing truths that can no longer remain buried and transforming the old king’s recollections into a psychological battleground.
The cast includes Julio Rodríguez, Claudia Valdés, Claudia Tomás, Laura Alemán and Daniel Romero, whose performances anchor this poetic and emotionally charged reinterpretation.
Performances take place February 19 through 21 at 8:30 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on February 22 at 5 p.m. The production is presented as part of Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s Away From Home Series, an initiative that brings dance, theater, and music to venues across South Florida while the Auditorium undergoes renovations.
