Apr 21, 2026
From: 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM
A community film screening pairs independent short films with a landmark feature exploring identity, history and representation. Taking place Tuesday, April 21 at Churchill’s Pub in Little Haiti, the program is presented by The Kinoplex in collaboration with Queer POC Miami.
The evening begins with a screening of All These Songs Take Place in Heaven, a short film by filmmaker Mikah Amani, followed by Cheryl Dunye’s 1996 feature The Watermelon Woman. Widely recognized as a pioneering work of queer cinema, the film follows a video store clerk and aspiring filmmaker researching the life of a Black actress from 1930s Hollywood while documenting her own experiences.
Hosted by Queer POC Miami, an organization focused on creating spaces for queer and lesbian people of color, the event emphasizes community engagement through film and discussion. The screening takes place in a casual setting, with attendees encouraged to bring blankets and refreshments.
