The Only Living Pickpocket in New York
Oct 29, 2026
Starting: 7:00 PM
John Turturro stars as an aging thief struggling to survive in a city that has outgrown his old methods in The Only Living Pickpocket in New York, a Florida premiere at Miami Film Festival GEMS. Presented Thursday, October 29 at Silverspot Cinema, the film is part of GEMS, the festival’s annual fall showcase running October 29 through November 5.
Turturro plays Harry, a longtime pickpocket facing shrinking returns in an increasingly cashless New York while caring for his disabled wife, Rosie. After he unknowingly steals and sells a valuable USB drive, Harry is drawn into a race to recover it before a crime family catches up with him.
Directed by Noah Segan, the drama pairs crime-story tension with a portrait of an older New Yorker confronting change, responsibility and a profession that no longer fits the city around him. Turturro will also appear separately during GEMS on November 2 for a Variety Creative Vanguard Award presentation and career conversation moderated by Variety Co-Editor-in-Chief Ramin Setoodeh.
