A TV meteorologist faces climate anxiety, forced optimism and something more unruly beneath the surface in GableStage’s regional premiere of Brian Watkins’ dark comedy. Weather Girl runs September 25 through October 18 at GableStage’s Wolfson Family Theatre at The Biltmore in Coral Gables.
Directed by Nicole Stodard, the play follows a California weather girl reporting from Fresno as she tries to deliver forecasts about a climate-stricken world with a bright, unshakable demeanor. Beneath that polished exterior, the story moves into stranger and more primal territory, turning the familiar format of a weather report into a fast-paced portrait of denial, dread and survival.
Weather Girl opens GableStage’s 28th season, which features a lineup of regional and Florida premieres. The play was named one of The New York Times’ Best Plays of 2025 and is under option for a limited series adaptation by A24 and Netflix.
Performances are scheduled Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on Wednesdays, Sundays and the final Saturday at 2 p.m.
