Whiplash in Concert
Apr 15, 2026
Starting: 7:30 PM
A live jazz ensemble performs the score of a modern film classic while the movie plays on screen, blending cinema and concert into a single immersive experience.
Whiplash in Concert takes place on Wednesday, April 15 at the Adrienne Arsht Center as part of the 2026 Miami Film Festival, running April 9-22. The event presents Damien Chazelle’s 2014 Academy Award-winning film Whiplash with its music performed live in sync with the screening.
Conducted by composer Justin Hurwitz, the performance features an 18-piece jazz big band, including acclaimed drummer Greyson Nekrutman. The concert brings the film’s intense musical sequences to life, highlighting the role of rhythm, improvisation and discipline at the heart of the story about an ambitious conservatory drummer and his demanding instructor.
Hurwitz, a two-time Academy Award winner and multiple Grammy and Golden Globe recipient, leads the ensemble through the score as the film unfolds, offering audiences a chance to experience Whiplash through both its cinematic narrative and its live musical power.
