Yessica Gispert: Susurro
Through Aug 31, 2025
weekly on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
From: 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Experience an exhibition that explores themes of memory, ritual and resilience through the transformative qualities of diverse materials. Yessica Gispert: Susurro will be on view from May 24 to August 31 at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum.
The exhibition features new works by Miami-based multidisciplinary artist Yessica Gispert, alongside pieces created over the past five years and selected objects from the Frost Art Museum’s collection. Gispert's artistic practice engages with materials such as wax, resin, metal and photo chemistry to express concepts of memory, ritual and embodied knowledge. Her work is influenced by the syncretic spiritual traditions of her Cuban heritage and her experiences of diaspora across the Americas. She aims to give tangible form to uncertainty and contingency, inviting viewers to consider the space between what is visible and what is intuitively felt.
The title Susurro, meaning "a whisper," reflects the exhibition's intention to reactivate and expand conversations Gispert has been developing on shared histories of migration, ecology and resilience.
Yessica Gispert holds an MFA from NYU Steinhardt, earned in 2012, and a postgraduate degree in Media Art from the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, earned in 2020. She currently serves as a Visiting Associate Professor in Photography at Florida International University. Her work has been exhibited at various galleries and institutions including MoMA PS1, the Ringling Museum of Art, Museum Abteiberg and A.I.R Gallery in Brooklyn, New York, as well as local venues such as Tunnel Projects Miami (2024) and Emerson Dorsch Gallery (2023). Gispert has received numerous accolades, including Art in Public Places commissions, three Miami Individual Artist Grants, an Ellies Creator Award and the Coral & Cathers Award. She is presently an artist in residence at The Deering Estate in Miami.
