A landmark jazz album takes center stage in a live tribute dedicated to rhythm, innovation and enduring swing. Pianist Zach Bartholomew and his quartet perform selections from Dave Brubeck’s Time Out, the groundbreaking 1959 release that expanded the language of jazz through unconventional time signatures and globally inspired forms.
The program features dynamic interpretations of signature pieces such as “Take Five” and “Blue Rondo à la Turk,” highlighting the album’s bold structures, melodic clarity and sense of play. Bartholomew’s approach balances technical precision with expressive nuance, honoring Brubeck’s legacy while allowing space for fresh musical dialogue among the ensemble.
Bartholomew is an award-winning pianist, composer, and educator whose career spans major jazz venues, performing arts centers and festivals across the U.S. and internationally, including the Monterey Jazz Festival, Jacksonville Jazz Festival and Festival Miami. A frequent finalist at the Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition, he has performed with artists such as Sean Jones, Dave Holland, David Liebman, Victor Goines and Carmen Bradford. He is a full-time music professor at Florida Memorial University and the recipient of Florida’s “Artist Performance on Tour” grant for his ongoing Jazz Access Tour, which brings high-level jazz performance and education to underserved communities statewide. His 2024 debut album, Balancing Act, charted on both JazzWeek and NACC Jazz charts upon release.
