Coral Gables Guide
- February 08, 2024
Coral Gables, known as The City Beautiful, is a sea of stunning Mediterranean Revival homes, banyan tree canopies and lush, winding streets. It also boasts some of Greater Miami & Miami Beach’s best restaurants and two premiere shopping destinations. The Gables, as locals call it, feels almost like a small town in the heart of a major international metropolis. And with culture, history and fantastic food, it’s an ideal neighborhood to explore during your stay.

A Historic Swimming Pool
Coral Gables’ original tourist attraction is the 820,000-gallon Venetian Pool, a former rock quarry transformed into a Mediterranean-inspired swimming hole. Once a hot spot for celebs like Johnny Weissmuller, better known for portraying Tarzan, it’s still one of the most unique aquatic venues in America. With its waterfalls, rock formations and caves, the whole family will enjoy swimming here. It is the only pool included in the National Register of Historic Places. Venetian Pool is scheduled to re-open for the season in the summer of 2025.

Cultural Highlights
In downtown Coral Gables, the Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theater performs everything from classic musicals to original local plays. Nearby, the Coral Gables Museum also serves as the Official Visitors Center. The museum's exhibits provide a glimpse of the neighborhood's history. Plan your visit to take advantage of special events like family day or the stroller tour. Classical music and jazz lovers will do well to check out the lineup of concerts at the University of Miami’s Maurice Gusman Concert Hall, where student musicians perform during the fall and spring semesters.

Gourmet Scene
A haven for MICHELIN-recommended restaurants, Coral Gables can make a case as the best dining location in Miami. Top restaurants include "Chopped" champion Giorgio Rapicivoli's Luca Osteria, Asian-fusion Zitz Sum and Bachour for its decadent pastries.

Shopping Retreat
Located at the intersection of Le Jeune Road and Ponce de Leon Boulevard, Shops at Merrick Park is Coral Gables’ most convenient shopping destination. The Mediterranean-inspired outdoor mall is anchored by Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus, with outlets from Lululemon, Tory Burch, Tommy Bahama and other top brands.

From Bargains to Bridal Boutiques
Miracle Mile, Coral Gables’ premiere shopping street, is a best-in-class retail destination. Best known for its wedding boutiques, there are over 150 shops and restaurants lining the area, ranging from formal wear to jewelry stores and a ROSS Dress for Less.

An Iconic Landmark
No discussion of Coral Gables is complete without a mention of The Biltmore Hotel Miami - Coral Gables, a 1926 original that’s dominated the city’s skyline for nearly 100 years. The stately Mediterranean Revival luxury resort is full of nods to Miami’s roaring ‘20s heyday and features a championship golf course and a sprawling 23,000-square-foot lagoon pool. The spa is also one of the best in South Florida, and the restaurant’s Sunday brunch with its caviar, sushi bars and fondue fountain is among Miami’s most lavish.
